This update will bring you the third level update & the development process achieving the sewer update. 

This level is designed to be a different take for a faster action one with the constant moving and avoiding the rubbish amongst the sewer waters. Slide left and right and ramp over items whilst riding the wooden plank and get help Jiggle the jelly get closer to freedom!

Planning Stage

Planning out the level included having a mood board showing potential asset ideas, modular walls, color palette, lighting potential and more! Establishing this early allows for our artists & environment artist to have a similar goal for working towards.

Grey-boxing Stage

Once mood-board is established grey-boxing is commenced for mechanics to be implemented & testers to feel the achieved gameplay we want. Having grey-boxing implemented, it allows for the environment artist to plan out the fluidity of the level while the programmers focus on mechanics, artists to develop suitable assets as blockages & environment assets and our music developer creating background music!

A unique feature to the level design includes the player constantly falling, preventing them from turning around and travelling back up. Not only is Jiggle the jelly programmed to be constantly sliding for this level, the entire environment has been tilted allowing for the visuals to also show that the player is sliding downhill.

Lighting Development

Following the mood-board, we wanted to have it as a dark environment as it is a confined sewer tunnel. However, we want for a dark green lighting to be implemented so the blockages are noticeable to the player to avoid. 

Here it shows it very bright & before the textures applied to the models having a purple color applied.

For this test, this is a bright green light with the textures applied on the modular walls. We concluded that the lighting should be darker and the overall lighting needs to be tweaked to get the achieved look.

Our final result with the lighting is shown below. It includes the darker green lighting and yellow tinted wall lighting to enhance the effect. 

Asset Layout

For this level we included a wide variety of assets our artists created from the bricked modular walls with pipes and tunnels to garbage blockage assets enhancing the feel and visuals of the environment & gameplay.

Environment Art

For fluidity between levels, at the end of the sewer the beach was added to be briefly shown before a transition is occurring. This not only indicates the end of the level but also shows the next stage of Jiggle the jelly’s freedom!
